Concept of Happiness through Design: Lumio School by EdDesign LLC, Cyprus

Lumio Private School in Paphos (Cyprus) is a non-profit international school that operates under the ownership of Bright Era Education and spans roughly 6.8 hectares. After purchasing the site in 2023, Bright Era Education engaged in planning, securing permits, and designing the renovations. EdDesign LLC created educational spaces for Lumio that are modern, innovative, functional and comfortable for students, parents and staff. Learn more in our report.

Lumio Private School in Acheleia, Paphos (Cyprus) is a non-profit international school. It sits on a campus of about 6.8 hectares, formerly home to the American Academy. EdDesign LLC provided educational spaces for Lumio that are modern, functional and comfortable for students, parents and staff. The project involved full renovation of interior spaces led by EdDesign: innovative classrooms, science and IT labs, art/music/ceramics rooms, a library. All spaces are equipped with functional, ergonomically bright furniture solutions and systems carefully chosen by EdDesign. Learning environments are carefully crafted to support engagement, creativity, and academic success in terms of school educational concept and mission. Design features ergonomic workstations that encourage collaboration and teamwork; specialised work zones and dedicated areas for laser cutting, 2D & 3D printing, UV printing, vacuum technology, metal & wood processing, ultrasonic equipment, robotics, electronics, sewing, embroidery, and more. Key design priorities have been flexibility, natural light, safety, comfort (including air-conditioning), and sustainable practices (eco-friendly soundproof materials for acoustics, recycling materials, efficient construction). The state-of-the-art learning environment will empower students to develop technical skills, explore new technologies, and bring their creative ideas to life. Phases included renovation of school buildings, addition of learning spaces and wellbeing learning areas, improvements to the surrounding outdoor areas. Varvara School is a Russian language school located on the island of Bali, founded by Kristina and Mikhail Osadchenko. It's housed in a former glassblowing exhibition center that has been renovated to suit the needs of the school. Varvara follows an educational approach that blends the best practices of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the Finnish education model, and the principles of humane pedagogy. There are no grades at the school, learning is project-based, and children study emotional intelligence, financial literacy, and Balinese culture. Chemistry, physics, and biology workshops at the "New School" are conducted in these laboratories. Here, all the equipment for safe and visually compelling experiments is available. The communication systems are integrated through the intelligent ceiling system from the German company Hohenloher. It provides access to water, electricity, low currents, and compressed air from any point in the classroom. All work surfaces are resistant to the effects of chemical reagents and thermal damage. Safety is paramount: in case of minimal risk, the system automatically disables access to the communications. The laboratory was designed by EdDesign LLC.
